About the builder

For about 10 years, I have been playing Oldtime clawhammer banjo and am active in the Oldtime music scene around North Central West Virginia. I am a member of the Oldtime stringband The Morgantown Rounders, playing banjo and Cajun accordion. I also teach an occasional clawhamer banjo workshop.

After playing for several years and having the opportunity to play many different banjos I started to really pay attention to the things I liked about certain banjos. I've tried to incorporate all of those thing into the banjos that I design and build. All Phillips Banjos have simple, clean designs, are solidly constructed from the finest materials and all have a deep, warm, plunky oldtime sound.
